Can you spot what's wrong with this picture?? Any guesses? Ok, I'll ruin the surprise. The person in this picture (who may or may not be ME) is letting their ankles cave in when they're doing box jumps. POOR FORM, OLD CHAP! POOR FORM!
Instead of being a Cavey-Mc-Caverton like me, you should try and keep your knees out, weight on the outside of your feet when you jump. Think of it like your push-press form. Weight should be down and up through your heels, not shooting your knees straight forward.
Why do you care? Oh, for lots of reasons. First and foremost, can you SEE how much strain this is putting on my achilles? Yikes. I'm lucky I didn't rupture that thing RIGHT THEN AND THERE. Also, this is an indicator of a mobility issue. Since I'm good and flexible in my ankles that leaves my hips. My plan of attack is to work the "couch stretch" and a few other hip flexor stretches every time I'm at the Fort. If your feet cave in like mine, I recommend you join me in working some hip mobility! Let's become supple like leopards together so we can keep ourselves injury free!
