(All at once) “TIME!”

July 1st, 2009, by Jennie

The workout yesterday was kind of a deviation from the norm. The strength work started out like usual, but the WOD left all of us feeling like we forgot something. Did I leave the coffee pot on? Did I remember to mail my gas bill? Hmm...nope. Remembered to do all that. I KNOW! I forgot to yell "TIME" when I finished my WOD yesterday!

Every minute on the minute for 12:00 do

5 box jumps (go tall!)
5 body rows
5 clapping push-ups

See? You didn't have to yell "TIME" even though we all felt like we needed to. It was bizarre, but a totally awesome workout. The GYG started things off right this morning, and set the tone for the rest of the day. You guys kicked butt!

I'd like to point out that the Graveyard Gang is growing. The 5:30 AM class is becoming increasingly popular, and is sometimes our largest class of the day. What are you crazy guys doing in the mornings? Am I missing something TOTALLY fun?

The real star of the day was our strength work. We worked on our cleans, and we saw some pretty impressive numbers. Yesterday will also allow us to finally fill in another section of the record board for SRM on Clean!

Stacy shows us what to do if you get stuck at the bottom of your squat.

  • uhhhh, are you sure you want to be telling our newcomers THAT is the way to bail....we may see some busted melons in our future...or some barbell tatoos on people's chests

  • Jennie, you are right, the GYG is GROWING, and we love it!! We're competitive, we have fun, and we encourage the hell out of each other every morning.

Special shout-out goes to AMY this morning. She encompasses everything the GYG represents -- she busted her BUTT during today's METCON. She never quit, never complained, just gutted it out and did a phenomenal job. She demonstrated this morning the Tom Mohr mantra:

"It's supposed to be HARD. If it were easy everyone would do it. The HARD is what makes it great!"

With Zach as our Mayor and the camraderie we all share, we can't go wrong!

  • Awww Dave. Thanks!!!! I'm glad I didn't scale it (or know that was an option!) I actually really liked the workout.

  • I want to be famous, I want to be a star.... graceful.
Thanks Jennie for running to my aid and to everyone else standing around waiting to see what happens.... you're time will come.

I am glad my moment of fame was in the form of helping others.

  • Yeah, Stacy, who's that asshole standing behind you just staring as you were on the floor under the bar?

  • Next time try a scream or yell - I bet you could have gotten the bar up if you had! Works for me most of the time ;)

  • Good thing you measured your head under the bar before you started.

I am going to go right now to see if my head fits below the bar and weights.

*Stacy should have got advice on "dumping" from Pete before that lift.*

Good to see you came out okay though.

  • Funny you should say that Sparky. I haven't heard the end of it from Pete and "what I should have done." And Bill tried it. His head doesn't fit. :)

  • Garth- I wanted to scream, but I knew it would only make things appear worse. I had it "under" control

  • I think we're all missing the point - at the risk of sounding like Carl from Caddyshack, but "how about a little love for the effort, ya know?"

It's always tough to PR personally or, even more difficult, to step past that and get on the record board - we all know that. For most of us, if not all, it's pretty intimidating to step and TRY to attempt this.

So, here's the first "atta girl" for having the nads to step up and make a huge effort to set the record. Way to go Stacy - it will for sure come next time.

And yes, I said "nads" - you all read that correctly.
