Paleo Thanksgiving

October 19th, 2009, by Jennie

Who likes turkey? Who likes having two Thanksgivings!? WE DO!

Let's celebrate Thanksgiving - Paleo style - together as a Fort Family!

Date: Saturday, November 21st

Time: 1:00 PM (I think)

Place: Jeanne's house (in Wauconda)

Jeanne and her family have graciously opened their home to all you crazy CrossForters and your families. Bill and I will be providing the BIRDS, and we'd like to ask that everyone bring a dish to pass. Try a new paleo recipe, or bring one that's tried and true. Either way, just get yourself and your dish to Jeanne's house for some food and fun!

I'll update this post with firm times once everything is confirmed. Please RSVP in the comments section so we know how many mouths we're feeding.

  • We'll be on the family farm in Georgia, gonna try to cut a deal with the farmer that leases our land for some grass fed beef

  • Can't wait, any chance to eat lots of turkey with great people is a must for me, I was wondering if there will be any mashed potatoes, cause it's tough to do thanksgiving without them, any ideas out there for paleo-friendly spuds would be great.

On a separate note that same night The Ritchie house will be hosting the UFC paperview event so for those of you into watching some of the best athletes (many of whom do crossfit) compete in some hand to hand combat we'd love to have you, that is if you're not still eating turkey at Jeanne's at 9 in the evening. This may be the best thanksgiving day ever, turkey and mixed martial arts, like I said, I CAN'T WAIT, hope to see you all there.

  • Count us in for the UFC. Audra loves watching sweaty bloody men wrestle. The clinches and submissions are her absolute favorite parts! Haha :)

I love boiled mashed sweet potatoes straight up. They are delicious and when you're used to eating primal/paleo, taste like candy. Mashed cauliflower is another great substitute. Boil them, mash them, add some seasoning and real butter for a delicious mashed potato like experience primal/paleo style!

  • Jeanne, that is so nice of you to open your home to all of us :) Us Schwabbies should be there! We are heading down to FL for Turkey day (not sure when we're leaving). Count on 3, but if things change, I'll let yall know!!! xoxoxoxoxoox

  • In as well.

Edit: The site told me my comment was too short above. So um...I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. And to the Republic, for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all

  • Garth:

I tried the mashed cauliflower, decent, although it was a bit soupy so I think I steamed it too long, didn't know sweet potatoes were an option so that is sweet. Saving you guys a seat for UFC, Trish loves the bloody hardbodies as well :)

  • Mark - I used to be a part of the sweet potato fan club, but it has 4 times the fructose content of standard white potatoes. I have switched parties and will endorse the white potato if one must indulge. **This message paid for by the state of Idaho**

  • Count us in for UFC as well.

Garth - I had no clue that Audra was turned on by such things. If I would have known this earlier, I would have been sure to draw blood the last time we wrestled :)

  • We'll have to figure out the timing. :D If all is okay scheduling around familial birthdays, we'll be there - possibly with both of the kids! I'll update as soon as I know, but it might not be for a few weeks. :/

Are there any plans/ideas for how to sort out what everyone's bringing, even if it's just a matter of posting it up in comments?

  • The Peloquin family will be there too! Thanks for hosting this Jeanne! Cant wait! As a warning....this is the girls nap time....we may have to leave in a hurry if things get ugly :-)

  • Since I confused the shit out of a few people with my "cryptic" RSVP to the Hallow's Eve party, I will just say this:

If a bear shits in the woods and nobody is around to hear it, does it still make a sound? Yes. Yes it does.

  • Tommy Mo & family will be there as well.

Myself, Mrs. Mo and Baby Mo will all be attending. Now, just come up with an idea of what to bring.

    Looking forward to it.

  • The Lewandowski's have a GREAT field behind their house to play some ultimate frisbee or touch football! Who's in????

  • Zach- I speak for the ladies of crossfit when I say "WE'RE IN!" Touchdown!!! spike the ball....butterfly

  • We will be attending, with both our kids. :)
I'm stuck on what to bring with, though - there's SOOOO much that's already been up on the whiteboard! ;)
