Team Saturday, and then some heavy lifting

December 13th, 2009, by Jennie

We had a smallish Team Saturday yesterday, but a lot of our Saturday usuals were saving themselves for the weightlifting meet. Some of you (Garth) had no issues with doing Team Saturday AND the meet. :-)

The workout was the Dirty Dozen:

In teams of 2, complete 12 rounds each of
12 squats
12 push-ups
12 pulls on the rower

*One team member rests while the other complete their round.

Our winners were Josh and Craig! Congratulations you guys! (Josh, you can smile, it's ok I promise)

After the Team Saturday workout was done about 20 of us piled into our vehicles and headed down to Windy City CrossFit for the Olympic Lifting meet. The two events that were being scored were clean & jerk, and the snatch.

Now, none of us are training for the Olympics, right? We all just went down there to throw around some weight and have fun! Thank you to everyone who came and lifted, cheered, coached, took pictures and made drinks! We definitely had the largest presence there, and it was awesome! Our lifters definitely could feel the love and excitement each time they stepped up to attempt their lifts.

Here are a few highlights from the meet:

1. The Show lifted shirtless and someone from the back row shouted, "Hey! Easy man! MY WIFE IS HERE!"

2. Lohmann played bartender and made paleo margaritas for everyone

3. Pete took 1st place for his weight class, and first place overall for the men! WHOA!

4. Stacy tied for her weight class, losing out on first overall only because the girl who beat her fasted instead of eating a big breakfast. D'oh!

5. Kelli took 1st place for her weight class and looked SO CUTE doing it!

6. Mike Bender is a show-offy-jerk and reverse curled/pressed instead of cleaning & jerking....it's SO EASY for you, isn't it Mike?!

7. Zach debuted some SWEET new facial hair that looked like something out of "over the top"

8. Mark Ritchie wore the bracelet of power and set a new PR!

9. We had a celebratory dinner at the Firkin and toasted to "Good food, good friends, and lifting heavy sh*t overhead!"

You guys make me so proud!

I *heart* you guys!

I *heart* you guys!

  • I had a FUCKING blast on Saturday! What a good looking group of people!

FYI - Lohmann, that sneaky bastard, is behind me! Get's everybody tanked and then doesn't get in the photo!?!?!

Missed ya Tommy Mo! You coulda "Jerked the World"!

    Awesome stuff.

    What's next?

  • A whole day with my Fort friends:

Well what can I say, it was epic, it was awesome, and when it was all over I was exhausted. A few thoughts if I may, first is that it was clear to me that CFF has better overall athletes than I had thought, being that we had a good presence in every weight class and I'd be willing to bet after studying the overall numbers that our people finished among the tops of most of the weight classes, this not including of course those who won their classes. Second is that the CFF competitors form was so far and away better on average that it wasn't even close. Bill said they were going to allow a 'little' press out but that you couldn't touch your elbows to your knees and the like. In reality there was a ton of slop being allowed which would have never flown on our record board, Jennie and I were watching and at one point she said 'Bill would never let that guy touch that weight, he'd be doing squat therapy for sure.' I think I counted a few eye rolls from Bill as he was 'judging.' Thirdly, I believe we had the only person in 'Pete' that snatched body weight, and the only people push pressing triple digits and had the largest jumps in weight between attempts, I think bender started the clean & jerk at 60 and ended at 110. Finally I think what I'm saying as this comment has gotten way too long is that we have a great cast of characters and represented our coaches and our affiliate in solid fashion. Thanks to the GYG guys for pushing me to commit to this, it was great.

    • i love that my shenanigans made #2 on the list.....looks like I am going to have to bring my A game next time to be #1 on Jennie's list...my margarita's must not have been strong enough.

bill and jennie should be proud of the way the CFF athletes represented the gym yesterday! we have 60+ athletes, whereas WCCF has 200 and CCF has 100+, yet it looked as if we were the superior affiliate....proud to be a part of it all!!!

    • I second Mark and Matt's comments. CFF is doing it the right way. I had a great time and as always I feel very fortunate to have a group of friends and teammates that are as passionate about Cross Fit as I am. Thanks again to Bill, Jenny and Zach for all the coaching and support. Congrats to everyone that competed and thanks you to everyone that came to cheer and support.

All I have to say is we have some pretty damn strong athletes. Everyone should be very proud of their performances!!! Good job Kelli and Stacy way to represent with 1st place finishes.

    • You guys are great! Sorry I had to miss it...was called in to work (why do they think just because they pay me well they have to ask me to actually work??!) Anyway, congrats to Stacy, Kelli and Pete...I'm sure you guys killed it and still had a smile on your faces for the pics!
