Tough love comin’ at ya!

April 23rd, 2009, by Jennie

Guys, let me be totally honest with you. Bill has told us this numerous times, but it still seems to be confusing for most of us. Here it is:

CARBOHYDRATES ARE GOING TO KEEP YOU FAT.

There, I said it. I love each and every one of you guys. You are my friends. But the God's honest truth is that eating high levels of carbs will keep you fat. Know what else eating carbs does? It makes you want MORE CARBS. It's an addiction. Every time you stuff those dirty carbs into your face, your body produces this lovely hormone response...and your body CRAVES that hormone response. So unless you have your shit together, there's absolutely no "cheat meals" for you. Sorry. Cheat meals are EARNED. If eating a cookie is going to set you on a two day spree in which you clean out every Dunkin' Donuts within a 15 mile radius, you probably shouldn't have that cookie.

Each and every time you "cheat" you set yourself back to square 1 in terms of kicking your carb addiction. Only the most self-disciplined people can continuously fight this addiction and keep winning. Most of us, however, will ride that slippery slope until we're eating 200+ grams of carbs a day without even thinking twice.

If you want to lose weight or lean out, please for the love of Suri Cruise stop self-destructing a week or even two weeks worth of hard work by having your "cheat". It's crack...only not illegal. Don't do crack either. Just to be clear.

Want to know what eliminating carbs does? It makes you leaner. Need proof? Here's Mike after 7 weeks. He has lost 30 lbs. That's a significant amount. We'll post his full set of pictures along with an explanation of how he's been eating shortly....I just needed to get this off my chest immediatly. It's really bothering me.

Bill says I'm ranting, and maybe that's the case. I don't have fancy explanations or scientific studies...I have something better. I have pictures of Mikey (click photo to see all images):

Mikey - 7 Week Progress

Sorry for ranting :( Can we still be friends?

  • YO! MIKEY!

You look fucking awesome. That's all that needs to be said. Don't look back. Enjoy yourself this weekend, you've earned it.

    Fuck that scale.

    Body weight scale that is.

    Food scale is our friend.

  • Wow Mike, the difference in the last 2 sets really show all your hard work! Good Job!

  • No more cookies or donuts for me.. I don't know if this pertains to a whole group in general, but I have really fallen off and have been trying to get back on. How do you know when you have earned a cheat day?

BTW---Awesome work Mike! You should definitely be proud of yourself!

  • good work, bender!!! keep it up buddy...these pictures alone should motivate anyone to put that bagel down!!

    • Mikey, you look great keep it up.

**** Note **** You made the Crossfit.com affiliate main page for the 25th.

    • Get off your can and you won't get fat eating carbs. Lazy is what makes you fat, not insulin.

    • Thanks everyone!!! It truly means a lot to me. Everyday I think of how fortunate I am for being part of such an outstanding group of people that help and support eachother along the way.

      • What about good carbs versus bad carbs?

Are you saying my broccoli/peppers/apples/pineapple within zone parameters is no longer good enough?

Or are you saying, cheat carbs like pizza, burgers, buns, bread, grains are going to keep me fat?

      • Noah -

We are in no way saying they are no longer good enough. We must remember that everyone is different though and some will be able to tolerate higher levels of fruit than others.

I would also argue that veggies and fruits are only better in the sense that they are much less carb dense. Let's face it, nobody would even want to try to eat the amount of broccoli required to equal the carb content of a few pieces of pizza. Not to mention, the fiber load would mess you up pretty significantly ;)

Keep eating your fruits and veggies in sensible quantities and you'll be good to go!

      • Drop grains from your diet - like pizza. Eat burgers without the bun. Avoid bread. Carbs from vegetables and fruit are good. You have to eat a plate full of vegetables (lots of food) to get the same amount of carbohydrates in a couple slices of bread.
Just finished watching a movie called 'Fat Head'. The movie is a little silly but the info is good and in line with what Bill has been proposing all along the way. Check it out given a chance :)
